Alligator Hunts with Salty Cracker Charters
American Alligator are a protected species that once populated the Everglades in astonishing numbers. Through the decades, they have been hunted for their meat and hides nearly to extinction. In 1967 they were placed on the Endangered Species List. With the help of wildlife conservation measures, the number of American Alligators have steadily risen. In 1987, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service declared a complete recovery of the species.
Our hunts are regulated by the State of Florida, and the rules and season are finalized in June of each year. We do not know until that time how many permits we will draw, and therefore do not book until then. However, we encourage you to get on the will-call list early.
Gators typically reach about 13 feet in length, with large specimens around 18 feet. They weigh between 450 and 600 pounds, so eat your Wheaties before you try to wrangle one of the big boys.
A typical hunt begins with a rotten chicken and a crossbow...
Gators do not chew.
They swallow their "prey" whole, or thrash their heads about to rip off pieces.
Are you sure you know what you're in for?
Better give us a call and let us explain a "typical" hunt on the river...
This is NOT a sporting adventure for amateurs alone, so let the experts be your guide! Over 20 years of gator wrangling and we've got all the right toys for the job.
